Stara Basan and Timki

Timki Internat is housed in an old hunting lodge of the Tzar. In summer the surroundings are quite beautiful as it is on the edge of the forest. However, in winter it becomes almost inaccessible as the road disappears underwater and the place becomes surrounded by mud. This means that parents of these SEN children are unable to visit for long periods at a time.
Friends for Sweden have helped them with beds, a shower block and are building a new shed for the outside toilets. BHA are installing new washing facilities, in the boarding house, in the summer of 2004. The kitchens need refurbishing with electric cookers as gas is not available.

Stara Basan Internat is in a pleasant situation in the centre of the village. They have received a lot of help from the friends from Sweden and Holland who have provided new beds, indoor toilets and have built new outdoor toilets. The children we met were definitely happy and proudly told us that “Life is much better here than at home”. The children have some physical and health problems caused by radiation but are able to receive regular medical checks.
