This is the largest of all the Internats in the region with 300+ children. The facilities are average but they do have very positive staff, especially in the English department. In 2004 we will be providing water heaters for the dining hall wash basins and more electric hand driers. The are in the centre of a large town and enjoy good relations with, and support from, the local community. |

A visit to Nizhin comes as a shock, as if you spend time in Ukraine you do not expect to find modern facilities and attitudes. This is a specialist children’s home for handicapped boys, many of them severe cases. The staff take a great pride in their work and do all they can for their children. They also have a very up to date attitude towards the material needs of the home and have sought, and obtained regular, sponsorship from abroad. This is by far the best equipped facility in the region and the facilities are well used. |

This is the “odd one out” as it is not in Chernigov region but 400 miles to the south near the Black Sea. All the children are SEN and orphans or in care. Fortunately for them, they have the most amazing staff who provide exemplary care despite the lack of resources. The school has good water thanks to Paul George who has also provided heaters for the showers. BHA have already improved the central heating and are undertaking major renovations to shower, washing and toilet facilities. |
